BabyPlus baby off to Kindergarten!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010 by Shelly Keefe
I just received this sweet note from one of our BabyPlus moms.  I believe it sums up what we feel is so important about prenatal learning during pregnancy.  It's all aboBabyPlus baby going to first day of Kindergarten!ut strengthening the foundation of what your little one already has!

"I just dropped off my first BabyPlus baby at her first day of Kindergarten. I couldn’t be more proud at this very instant knowing that I’ve done everything humanly possible to start her out on the right foot.

As I tell people, expensive diaper bags, strollers and infant toys are nice, but BabyPlus lasts a LIFETIME.

And yes, still eyes welling as I type this… I held it together for her in the classroom, but the drive home was a different story. "

Back to School -- Where Does the Time Go?

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 by Shelly Keefe
I cannot believe I have a son going into high school and another going into sixth grade!  When did I "grow up?"  The time from the joy of finding out you are pregnant to the joy of their first steps to the many other joyous occasions seems to literally fly by.

I remember being pregnant with my first son and how I couldn't believe the world didn't stop just because I was pregnant.  Even though I was sick from the day I found out until the day I gave birth, there isn't a minute I would go back and change.  With my second son, I was so exhausted from being pregnant and chasing a three-year-old that I don't have many detailed memories of either the pregnancy or the first couple years.  I do, however, remember how they adored each other and to this day are very close.

Each day of pregnancy is a gift because you'll blink and it will be over.  Yes, you'll have all new phases and adventures but there's something so special about it being just the two of you.  Blog, journal, and record your thoughts because no matter how much you think you'll remember the little things, so many new ones will take their place.  Nothing compares to seeing a picture of your now high school student on his first day of kindergarten with the look of excitement yet insecurity.  You remember how fast life really goes.

The cover of Pregnancy Magazine's September issue

Thursday, August 5, 2010 by Cindy Wallander
Image source: gosublogger.comCan't hardly believe that Danica McKellar is pregnant!  Danica McKellar is best known for her role as Winnie in The Wonder Years.  Danica McKellar married composer Mike Verta last year, and now they are pregnant!

According to the article Danica is reading "a lot about parenthood."  The article listed several books she is reading about parenting and what happens after delivery.

Danica will also likely want to know more about what happens BEFORE delivery - in the prenatal period.  The prenatal period is critical to the lifelong learning process of your baby.  Using the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System - a simple, safe set of sounds based on the mother's heartbeat - while pregnant encourages cognitive development.  Danica will find out that learning in the womb is not a new idea - many cultures have believed in and practiced forms of prenatal stimulation for years.

Since this is Danica McKellar's first pregnancy, she will likely read about the stages of fetal development and all the stages through pregnancy.  Being first time parents, Danica and Mike will be encouraged by the many parents who report that using BabyPlus positively impacted the infant sleeping schedule.  BabyPlus parents all over the world report their BabyPlus babies more readily nurse, have increased ability to self-soothe, and have great sleeping habits.

BabyPlus congratulates Danica McKellar, her husband Mike Verta and their baby!

another happy BabyPlus parent "highly recommends"

in her own words:

"I'm a proud mother of 3 BabyPlus "graduates." I first read about the BabyPlus System in BabyPlus is a simple, safe set of sounds based on the mother's heartbeat.Parenting Magazine in spring of 2004 when I found out I was pregnant with my first. I could not be happier with my choice and advocacy to my husband that I wanted to use this system. All 3 of my children ranging from 5 1/2 years to 23 1/2 months have always hit their milestones well before the "norm." I've used a BabyPlus system with my pregnancies because after seeing the benefits of the first I couldn't bring myself to chance it and highly recommend it to anyone looking for something that will benefit a child for the rest of their life."

We thank all of "our" parents for choosing to use BabyPlus with their children!

BabyPlus Static Problems? Try these suggestions!

Monday, July 26, 2010 by Shelly Keefe
Using BabyPlus during pregnancy is such a wonderful lifelong gift to your little one.  The simple set of sounds strengthens cognitive development during such an important time during fetal development.  The BabyPlus system is a very reliable product.  However, a problem can occasionally occur, and it is usually a battery issue.

There are several things you may want to try.  First, be sure you have a fresh set of alkaline batteries.  As you probably know, the BabyPlus requires fresh batteries every 7-10 days to operate at optimum performance.  Even new batteries at the store could be old.  We recommend Duracell brand battery, but we do not recommend rechargeable batteries.

The next thing you can do is check the battery contacts.  Sometimes a battery can accidentally bend a contact.  You can create a tighter fit by removing the batteries and pulling the contacts out a bit.  There are two sets of thin metal flaps with raised dots on each side of the battery casing for a total of four.  Take your pinky fingernail or a paperclip and gently pull out the flaps to create a tighter connection for the battery making sure not to snap the contact.

Finally, you can remove the batteries and let the system discharge stored energy for 45 minutes to an hour.  Then, insert a new set of fresh alkaline batteries.

"I don’t think buying this is about trying to make your baby a genius but if you are interested in giving your baby a bit of a headstart, surely it’s worth a go...."

BabyPlus is used all over the world! These are the words of a UK BabyPlus "mum"

"I was recommended BabyPlus by a friend who used it during her two pregnancies and raved about it. To be perfectly honest I was skeptical but after reading up on it decided that it couldn’t do any harm so thought that I had nothing to lose. I began using it at 18 weeks of pregnancy as the manufacturer recommends for an hour in the morning (I set the alarm an hour earlier to put it on in bed!!) and an hour after work. I soon grew to love this time as it was a part of the day that I could really focus on the pregnancy and the baby. At about week 20, the baby started to kick and soon would move and squirm during our `sessions’ which was wonderful so if nothing else I felt that I was really bonding with the baby. I wasn’t religious in using it and missed the odd lesson but fit them in whenever I could.

My baby arrived on his due date and at birth his eyes were wide open and he was alert observing his surroundings. He latched on fairly easily straight away and has been a good feeder ever since. His sleeping patterns were fairly sociable from the off and he slept through the night from about 3 months which I believe is unusual! He is developing well and I get many comments about how he seems advanced for his age. He is my first baby so I don’t know but certainly he seems to be slightly ahead of his buddies of the same age from the antenatal classes.

It’s hard to say whether or not BabyPlus is the reason that our little boy is doing so well but is does seem a coincidence and having convinced other friends of it’s benefits and who have used it they seem to be sharing the same experience. I think that there are many factors that contribute to a happy baby but I would say that if I was to have another child I would certainly use BabyPlus again because I feel it would be unfair not to give my other children the same start. It may be on the pricy side but it is well worth the investment giving the amount of research that is reported to have gone into the product, and certainly my experience is that it does seem to work! If I had another child, I would not want to miss out on giving them the same opportunity.

I don’t think buying this is about trying to make your baby a genius but if you are interested in giving your baby a bit of a headstart, surely it’s worth a go!

There’s lots of useful info on the BabyPlus website about the scientific research which is great if you need a bit more convincing!"

As usual, "our" parents are the very best!

It's Hot! Hot! Hot!

Thursday, June 24, 2010 by Shelly Keefe
I will be the first to admit that I do not enjoy hot weather, especially when I was pregnant!  And with the heat index reaching 100 lately, prenatal learning during pregnancy and BabyPlus is not the first thing on my mind at the moment!

It is extremely important that you take extra care during pregnancy in the heat and humidity of the summer.  There are a lot of articles online regarding caring for yourself during hot weather, but here are a few tips to remember:

    1.  Keep hydrated!
    2.  Wear moisture-wicking clothing to keep skin cool.
    3.  Exercise indoors or in the evening when it's cooler.

Watch for signs and symptoms, such as cramping, because heat exhaustion is not only uncomfortable but can be dangerous to you and your unborn baby.  And hang in there, every day is one day closer to fall!

I'm going to grab my fan and get back to Customer Service at BabyPlus.  You may find out more about prenatal enrichment and the wonderful benefits of such a simple set of sounds by visiting our website below.

Batteries, An Important Component

Thursday, June 17, 2010 by BabyPlus- Guest Blog

So, you had a baby 3 years ago, used BabyPlus and loved it! You just found out that you're pregnant again and the first thing you go to retrieve from your pregnancy days is the BabyPlus unit that you loved so very much. The only problem is that once you take it out of the box it doesn't seem to be working. This is something we hear every once in a while but want you to know that the BabyPlus system is very reliable. Usually when an issue occurs it is due to old batteries.

Before you worry, there's a few things you may want to try. First, be sure you have a fresh set of alkaline batteries.  As you might remember, the BabyPlus unit requires fresh batteries every 7-10 days to operate at optimum performance. Did you know that even the brand new batteries you just bought at the store could be old?  You'll want to make sure you try a different set of batteries if you don't have luck with the first. Also, we recommend Duracell brand battery and do not recommend rechargeable batteries.

The next thing you can do is check the battery contacts to make sure the batteries fit tightly. Sometimes inserting a battery can accidently bend a contact. You can create a tighter fit by removing the batteries and pulling the contacts out a bit. There are two sets of thin metal flaps with raised dots on each side of the battery casing (or four total). Take your pinky fingernail or a paperclip and gently pull out the flaps to create a tighter connection for the battery.

Finally, remove the batteries and let the system discharge stored energy for 45-60 minutes.  Then, insert the new set of fresh alkaline batteries. And just like that, the baby in your womb can be enjoying the sounds of BabyPlus!

Following a BabyPlus Mom-To-Be in Arizona

Thursday, June 3, 2010 by Shelly Keefe
Moms-to-be all over the country-and all over the world-want to do what is best for their little one while pregnant.  Prenatal learning is a wonderful gift to give an unborn baby that will continue to benefit the rest of his or her life.  Through a simple set of sounds that resembles the mother's heartbeat, parents can give their babies a strong foundation of learning.

Christine B. is a new BabyPlus user that we will be following throughout the remainder of her pregnancy.  We asked her a few questions about using BabyPlus.

What is your favorite part about using BabyPlus?
I really like feeling that I’m doing everything I can to give my baby a headstart!  Plus, I have just started feeling baby kick, and those first movements were felt during one of my early sessions using BabyPlus; that was really fun.

Would you recommend using BabyPlus to other expecting moms?  Absolutely!

How easy is it to use BabyPlus? Couldn’t be easier.  The design is simple…and you don’t even have to keep track of time since the unit turns itself off automatically after an hour.  Also, you can wear the BabyPlus while doing most activities – I’ve worn it while washing dishes, checking email, reading, etc.

Any other advice you would give moms who have questions about BabyPlus? If you have questions about the science behind BabyPlus, how it works, or testimonials from other moms, check out babyplus.com – a very informative website!

We look forward to following Christine in the months to come!

How To Use BabyPlus

Tuesday, May 25, 2010 by Shelly Keefe
I receive many of the same questions in BabyPlus Customer Service.  A common question is regarding the Usage Chart and how many days to use each lesson.

To determine hoHow to use
BabyPlusw many days to use each of the 16 lesson is to take the number of weeks remaining in your pregnancy (based on a 40 week pregnancy) and multiply by 7 to get the total days remaining. Then divide that total by 16 (number of lessons). The result is the number of days that you should play each of the 16 segments.

For example, if you are 19 weeks along, you have approximately 21 weeks left in your pregnancy.  You would multiple 21 by 7 to get 147 days, which you would divide by 16 and get 9.  You would use each lesson 9 days and switch to the next lesson on day 10.

If you are referring to the chart, it can sometimes be confusing. The chart is to be used just once to determine your schedule. For example, if you are in your 24th week of pregnancy when you start the BabyPlus, you will use each lesson twice a day for 7 days.  Find the week you are pregnant in the first column, and the second column will show you  how many days to use each lesson twice a day.

Once you reach Lesson 16, you will use it until you deliver.  It may be a shorter or longer number of days than you have used the other lessons.
If you need further explanation, you may always call or email our office.  We are always here to help!

How about a round of applause?

Friday, May 21, 2010 by Julie Louly
Earlier this week Kiwi Magazine's Blog noted a university based study citing the benefits of hand-clapping in little ones.  The study found that kiddies in lower elementary who participated in hand-clapping songs, during recess or music class had neater hand writing and even improved writing and spelling skills throughout the day.  Children who engage in hand-clapping songs actually show an increase in motor and cognitive skills.  The correlation is understandable when we think about the first rhythm ever enjoyed by any of us; our mother's heartbeat.  During the stages of fetal development the benefit of infant stimulation via a simple rhythmic sound is already taking place.  Every trimester of pregnancy is critical to the development of the baby but at the point that your baby begins to hear (usually around week 18) an entire new world opens up to baby.  He begins to listen to mommy's rhythm!  Studies have shown that introducing a simple set of sounds which are similar to mom's heartbeat but differ enough to create a slight contrast  are most effective for greater cognitive development.  Other kinds of stimulation such as classical music are likely more entertaining to mommy.  Baby's brain is not able to process something so complicated.  After all its the soothing symphonic melody of mommy's heartbeat that is most familiar.  Don't worry mom there will be plenty of time later in his life for Mozart or Chopin; until then he has BabyPlus.
