Sometimes I get asked, "What is BabyPlus?" working in Customer Service.  I am able to share with them the exciting benefits of using a prenatal care curriculum such as BabyPlus.

Lisa Jarrett, President of the BabyPlus Company, says "BabyPlus introduces a safe, simple set of sounds to a child as early as 18 weeks in the womb.  These sounds are patterned after the mother's heartbeat, the one language the baby can recognize at this early stage of life.  It is the only true and consistent sound of the prenatal environment.  The variation of sounds stimulates the baby's cognitive development and as the child progresses through the BabyPlus curriculum, he or she learns to discriminate between those sounds.

Well over 100,000 families, including doctors, teachers and childhood development experts around the world have experienced the benefits of early education through the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System.  Right from birth, BabyPlus parents report babies more readily nurse, display an increased ability to self-soothe and are more relaxed and alert; and, later in life, reach earlier developmental milestones, show improved school readiness and greater creativity and independence, have longer attention spans and enhanced intellectual abilities."

I love being able to introduce people to how babies can learn in the womb during development.

You want to make sure that your BabyPlus system is in working condition for your prenatal care curriculum.  If you encounter any issues, there are several things you may want to try.

First, be sure you have a fresh set of batteries.  As you probably know, the BabyPlus requires fresh batteries every 7-10 days to operate at optimum performance. Even new batteries at the store could be old. Always check the date for fresh new batteries. We recommend the Duracell brand battery.

The next thing you can do is check the battery contacts. If they are no longer a tight fit, you can remove the batteries and pull the contacts out a bit to create a tighter fit.

In most cases, this solves any issues that you may encounter with your system so that you may get all benefits during prenatal development.

We all know that babies have different personalities and temperaments.  While one baby may be able to self soothe, another may require much more attention to calm and relax.  One may enjoy bath-time and squeal with delight; the other may scream when their toes touch the water.  While there isn't a magic formula for the perfect baby, we can influence them even while in the womb.  Studies have shown that mothers who have used a prenatal curriculum such as BabyPlus have babies with an increased ability to self sooth and are more relaxed and alert at birth.  It doesn't guarantee that your baby will sleep all night, will never cry, or will be a genius, it just means that you have given your baby a head start by using the one constant they experience throughout their nine months--their mother's heartbeat.

Runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes--all signs of seasonal allergies.  Day by day pregnancy has enough going on to have to worry about these annoying symptoms.  The question of whether or not you should take allergy medication during pregnancy is one between you and your doctor.  However, there are several non-drug options such as using a humidifier, using Saline nasal spray and making sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.  Talk to your doctor about other options to help alleviate allergy symptoms.  You can both work out a prenatal plan that will be safe during all stages of pregnancy.

Working in Customer Service, one of the most common questions I get asked is "How many days do I listen to each BabyPlus lesson?"  The usage schedule can sometimes be confusing. Each lesson is to be used an equal number of days, with the exception of lesson 16, which will be longer or shorter depending on the actual day you deliver.

The chart is to be used just once to determine your schedule. For example, if you are in your 20th week of pregnancy when you start the BabyPlus, you will use each lesson twice a day for 9 days.

You will use Lesson #1 twice a day for 9 days. Then you will start Lesson #2 and use it twice a day for 9 days. Then you will start Lesson #3 and use it twice a day for 9 days, and continue through each lesson twice a day for 9 days.

On the 16th lesson, you may go for more or less than 9 days depending on when you deliver. Just continue with lesson 16 until you deliver.

School is back in full swing and kids are back in the classrooms, but what about the concept of a prenatal classroom?  The idea might sound new and different, but it’s fast approaching mainstream pregnancy terminology.  By using a prenatal curriculum, their cognitive ability strengthens during the prenatal development period.   In other words, your baby will have a head start after they are born and have the blueprint for building a foundation for learning.   This is all done with a safe, simple set of sounds that are patterned after the mother’s heartbeat.  Click on the link below to learn more about BabyPlus Prenatal Education System.

Having another baby can be an adjustment as well as a learning experience for the entire family.  Jealousy can set in when so much attention is on the new baby, especially if you have an only child.  By starting early on, some of that might be alleviated with just a little extra attention.  The perfect chance to do this is while doing your BabyPlus prenatal lessons.  Just muffle the sound with a pillow and take the time to read to the brother or sister-to-be or use it as a time to learn numbers by having them count the “heartbeats.”  It’s also a great time to sit and talk with them about having a new brother or sister.  Help promote sibling bonding even prenatally while in the womb.  It may not eliminate sibling rivalry completely but might help encourage the relationship in the long run.

As the Olympics Games come to a close, not only do we need to applaud the athletes but their families as well.  Sometimes we forget about the “behind the scenes” support system that they provide.  I truly enjoyed watching Michael Phelps in every event, not only because of how amazing he was to watch but how excited his Mom would get.  You could see the pride and joy in her reactions to Michael’s victories.  I really don’t think he could have achieved the status that he has without knowing that no matter if he came in first or last, there was someone at home who would love him unconditionally.  So, if your children are still in the womb or have children of their own, tell them you love them no matter what.  Let them know that they have a gold medal support team that is rooting for them every day and is there to love them with no strings attached.

Thump-thump.  Thump-thump.     Mommy’s heartbeat sounds just a little different again today.  I’ve started hearing another heartbeat for about an hour in the morning and again for an hour in the evening.  The sounds are the same, but yet they are just a little different.  That makes me wonder what else going on out there.  There’s a world outside with more than just Mommy’s heartbeat?  Wow!  There must be so many things to see and learn about.  I can’t wait to get started.

Becoming a parent for the first time can be a little scary.  There is an overwhelming amount of information about what to do and what not to do.  It can be quite intimidating.  By stepping back and taking time to decide what you want can help you begin to narrow down what things to research further.  An example would be a baby's feeding schedule.  On one hand, some say to set the baby's schedule and feed them only at specific times.  On the other hand, some say to feed the baby when they act hungry and to not depend too much on the clock to dictate the schedule.  There is a lot of information to support both sides but each method may not fit everyone.  Think about what type of lifestyle you will lead after the baby is born and how feeding will fit into it.  Once you've decided what would be best for you, then research more into that method.

Always remember there are no hard and fast rules to parenting so if something doesn't feel right or doesn't work, try something else.  Take cues from your baby and above all, try not to over think or get stressed.  You'll find that your baby is quite forgiving and won't hold it against you if you don't know everything!

Safe and simple sounds

There are many benefits from using BabyPlus during prenatal development.  These are just a sample.  By using this safe, simple set of sounds, the baby learns to differentiate between those sounds and the mother’s heartbeat.  This sets the stage for providing a lifetime of benefits.  Click on the link below to learn more about the lifetime benefits of using BabyPlus.

The 2008 Olympics is now underway.  So many different countries with different cultures, languages and ideas have all come together for a common goal—to take home a Gold Medal.   It’s a bond between all the athletes that doesn’t require speaking the same language to understand.

There is another common “language” that is universal—a mother’s heartbeat.   That element remains constant throughout prenatal development.  BabyPlus is a language similar to the mother’s heartbeat and teaches the baby to discriminate between those two similar sets of sounds in the prenatal environment.  It’s a terrific tool to get a head start on learning for many years to come.

How do you draw the line between shielding your child from getting hurt and letting them learn so that they may grow and develop?  Life's lessons on parents can be tough.  I’m learning that and I don’t know who it’s harder on—my kids or me.  My oldest son who’s going into seventh grade just tried out for football, but he ended up not making the team.  On the inside, I went from anger wondering how on earth the coaches couldn’t see that I had the most talented child in the world to wanting to cry because it hurt so much to see his feelings get hurt!  Naturally, he was disappointed, but he said something to me that left me at a loss for words.  When I asked him how else he felt, he said just one word—satisfied.  He said he felt good that he tried something he had never done before, worked very hard and saw an improvement by the end.  I think that our babies are much stronger than we give them credit for and sometimes these lessons might be more for us as parents.  There’s always next year and then maybe “we’ll” make the team.

With the Olympics just a few days away, you can’t turn on the TV without hearing the surrounding controversy.  But what if we could step back and focus on something positive.  These amazing athletes were once babies like everyone else, but what happened to set them apart?  Did they just wake up one day and decide to be an Olympic athlete?  What gives them the motivation and determination and the ability to sacrifice so much?  Maybe their brains are different.  Perhaps, it has something to do with genetics.  We could go on and on about different theories and ideas, but maybe it’s just better to take a moment to admire their almost superhuman abilities and to be inspired by their passion and drive.  It is quite amazing, and their parents must be very proud.  Most of them have been there from the beginning, cheering them on and supporting them.  As parents, we naturally want the best for our children and have big dreams for their futures.   Of course, we can’t guarantee that BabyPlus will make your baby a future Olympic athlete, but it doesn’t hurt to dream!

Remember when you were getting ready for a new   school year and had all new school supplies?  The brand new box of crayons was my favorite.  Every crayon perfect and unused; my favorite was the red one.  I also remember arranging all my new supplies just so in my backpack for the first day and hardly being able to sleep the night before.  It’s hard to believe that my boys are preparing for their own first day.  As parents, we hope that we have done everything we could to have prepared them to do their best not only educationally but socially as well.  I think that using BabyPlus is one more tool we can use to help prepare our children for a lifetime of learning from infancy on through school.

My son decided to play trombone last year.  I couldn’t believe how wonderful the band sounded at his spring concert!  However, it took a lot to get to that point.  He had to learn one note at a time which then led to scales, which eventually led to an entire song.   When you are learning something new, you must start with the basics and build on that.  That’s similar to what the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System does.  It breaks learning down to the most basic sound that a baby would recognize in its prenatal environment; the mom’s heartbeat.  Then each lesson builds on the next, stimulating their cognitive development to learn to discriminate between the two.   Breaking down to the basics will help build the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

So many companies today claim to be “family centered” but once you are hired, it’s not always so.  I have been with the BabyPlus Company for almost two months now and I can say without a doubt that this is one company that is truly family oriented.  I've been welcomed with open arms from day one and have been made to feel like part of a team.  In this short time, I have learned so much and can honestly say BabyPlus is a wonderful product.  It sure makes getting up to go to work easier when you work somewhere that honestly cares about the product as well as the people!

Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream……  How many times did you sing that as a child?  Over and over!  What about singing it in a round?  You eventually learned to distinguish the verses and could listen to them together or make them out separately.   That idea is very similar to the theory behind BabyPlus.  The two sounds, mother’s heartbeat sounds and BabyPlus, are simultaneous but the prenatal child eventually can discern that there are two different sounds.  Learning to distinguish is one of the most basic learning skills which is the foundation for baby’s development after birth.

We enjoyed the last few days at the national (ACOG) show. ACOG stands for American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Overall, the BabyPlus product was very well received, and there was a lot of interest from many of the physicians regarding BabyPlus and critical times in child development. We met many pregnant physicians.  We are happy to give them a free BabyPlus system, knowing that they would be convinced of the benefits after using BabyPlus.

The overall belief there seemed to be that learning does take place in the womb, and that one of the most important prenatal development facts is that the womb is not a sound proof booth. The fact that BabyPlus is an “age appropriate” curriculum that encourages auditory discrimination leading to cognitive development was well received. The critical times in child development are not 0 to three, but rather prenatally to three, starting as early as 18 weeks, when the auditory system is fully developed.
