Joyful Time

The BabyPlus Company is lucky to be able to participate in the truly joyful time of a pregnancy.  We hear from expectant parents often; we love being a part of your lives.  Every parent wants to make sure they are giving the best prenatal care available to their child.  Your amazing concern and love for your child is so evident with every phone call and email you send us.  We believe in the benefits of infant stimulation during the stages of pregnancy, and clearly, so do you!  Think of the bond you are already establishing with your baby!

It's not very often that you get a hug at work.  But that is exactly what I got at a recent conference I attended. A nurse walked into my booth, wrapped her arms around me, and said "Thank you for BabyPlus". (I wished I could take credit for it, but I told her "your welcome" anyway.)  She proceeded to tell me that I had given her a BabyPlus Prenatal Education System at a conference we had both attended.  Her baby was now four months old, and she credited BabyPlus with her child's very calm demeanor, his very contented nature, and that he was a very good sleeper, but she said the most noticible thing about her baby was that he nursed like a pro from the very beginning. (As a mother of two, I know what a struggle breast feeding can be.)  I was happy to tell her that many first time parents who used the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System, have reported the same thing to lactation consultants. I'm excited to hear from this wonderful mother in the future about her childs developments.

See you next time!

I sometimes hear an expectant mother say "I don't know when I would find the time to use BabyPlus". In my travels, I've heard some interesting suggestions from mothers who have overcome this.   One second time mother said she would use BabyPlus to lull herself and her two year old to sleep at naptime.  She would simply lie down, position BabyPlus, and cuddle up with her two year old. She would let the soft, rhythmic sounds lull her and her son to sleep.  Now, not only is everyone getting the rest they need, the prenatal baby is receiving the beneficial stimulation that BabyPlus provides. Having a smart baby is as easy as taking a nap!

As I watched the Chinese Olympics every night, I thought about what a beautiful and exotic culture it is.  In the ancient Orient, expectant mothers tried to create the ideal prenatal environment with a practice called "Tai-kyo."  This practice consisted of tapping in rhythm on their bellies in regular intervals.  They believed fully that there were post-natal benefits for their child.  The longest term benefit being strengthened learning capabilities for that child's lifetime.  All this by using a prenatal curriculum during the most critical period in infant development!  I often think how much an ancient culture such as China actually knew.  It's time again to revisit Tai-kyo.

You want to make sure that your BabyPlus system is in working condition for your prenatal care curriculum.  If you encounter any issues, there are several things you may want to try.

First, be sure you have a fresh set of batteries.  As you probably know, the BabyPlus requires fresh batteries every 7-10 days to operate at optimum performance. Even new batteries at the store could be old. Always check the date for fresh new batteries. We recommend the Duracell brand battery.

The next thing you can do is check the battery contacts. If they are no longer a tight fit, you can remove the batteries and pull the contacts out a bit to create a tighter fit.

In most cases, this solves any issues that you may encounter with your system so that you may get all benefits during prenatal development.

We all know that babies have different personalities and temperaments.  While one baby may be able to self soothe, another may require much more attention to calm and relax.  One may enjoy bath-time and squeal with delight; the other may scream when their toes touch the water.  While there isn't a magic formula for the perfect baby, we can influence them even while in the womb.  Studies have shown that mothers who have used a prenatal curriculum such as BabyPlus have babies with an increased ability to self sooth and are more relaxed and alert at birth.  It doesn't guarantee that your baby will sleep all night, will never cry, or will be a genius, it just means that you have given your baby a head start by using the one constant they experience throughout their nine months--their mother's heartbeat.

Runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes--all signs of seasonal allergies.  Day by day pregnancy has enough going on to have to worry about these annoying symptoms.  The question of whether or not you should take allergy medication during pregnancy is one between you and your doctor.  However, there are several non-drug options such as using a humidifier, using Saline nasal spray and making sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.  Talk to your doctor about other options to help alleviate allergy symptoms.  You can both work out a prenatal plan that will be safe during all stages of pregnancy.

The real question is, "Why wouldn't you use BabyPlus?"

The BabyPlus Prenatal Education System is safe, scientifically validated, and the benefits are remarkable. The benefits are a baby who more readily nurses, has an increased ability to self-soothe, is more interactive and responsive, and is more relaxed and alert at birth.  In order to give your child every advantage, you take care of your health while you're pregnant - eating right, taking prenatal vitamins, avoiding alcohol, etc. Basically, you commit to taking care of the physical environment of your developing baby.

The great news is - you can also begin taking care of your baby's early cognitive development.  The scientific research community is in agreement with your natural instincts.  Why not start educating your child as early as possible - with an age-appropriate curriculum for the stages through pregnancy - based on your own heartbeat?

Working in Customer Service, one of the most common questions I get asked is "How many days do I listen to each BabyPlus lesson?"  The usage schedule can sometimes be confusing. Each lesson is to be used an equal number of days, with the exception of lesson 16, which will be longer or shorter depending on the actual day you deliver.

The chart is to be used just once to determine your schedule. For example, if you are in your 20th week of pregnancy when you start the BabyPlus, you will use each lesson twice a day for 9 days.

You will use Lesson #1 twice a day for 9 days. Then you will start Lesson #2 and use it twice a day for 9 days. Then you will start Lesson #3 and use it twice a day for 9 days, and continue through each lesson twice a day for 9 days.

On the 16th lesson, you may go for more or less than 9 days depending on when you deliver. Just continue with lesson 16 until you deliver.

About the Comfort Pouch

The BabyPlus Prenatal Education System includes a comfort pouch.  You put your system in the pouch to wear during these critical times in child development.  One question we often hear is "How do I adjust the size of the comfort pouch?"  Click on the picture of the comfort pouch straps for directions to "re-size" the comfort pouch.  Some moms even buy two or three pouches to have extras on hand!  The pouch should be worn snug to your belly, and your baby will hear the sounds similar to a mother's heartbeat sounds.  This is how learning begins!

As we continue our discussion on the benefits of Folic Acid to the developing fetus' brain, we learn that many fruits and vegetables are high in folic acid. Early brain development during pregnancy can be greatly affected by the addition or lack of this critical nutrient. It's easy to include these foods in your diet. Fruits high in folic acid include strawberries, oranges and other citrus fruits, tomatoes, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, raspberries, avocados, bananas and watermelon.

Simply Salad
Combine halved strawberries with chunks of other folic-acid-rich fruits, such as bananas, oranges, and melons.  Sprinkle with chopped nuts.  Serve with a dressing of plain yogurt seasoned with a little thawed frozen orange juice concentrate.

There are many articles on Prenatal Development. Nutrition is no exception. One of the most important nutrients for pregnant women is folic acid, which has been shown to reduce the incidents of brain and nerve disorders in the developing fetus. It also encourages strong fetal brain development.  It's has been recommended that a mom-to-be increase the folic acid in her diet. Folic Acid is found in many foods, especially fruits and vegetables. Beans and grains are also an easy way to increase the folic acid in your diet. Try this easy and tasty recipe. Tortilla to Go

For a brown-bag lunch, spread flour tortilla with canned refried beans and sprinkle with shredded Jack or cheddar cheese and some chopped green onion.  Roll and wrap in plastic wrap.  Heat for 30 seconds in microwave.  Serve with salsa and lowfat sour cream.

School is back in full swing and kids are back in the classrooms, but what about the concept of a prenatal classroom?  The idea might sound new and different, but it’s fast approaching mainstream pregnancy terminology.  By using a prenatal curriculum, their cognitive ability strengthens during the prenatal development period.   In other words, your baby will have a head start after they are born and have the blueprint for building a foundation for learning.   This is all done with a safe, simple set of sounds that are patterned after the mother’s heartbeat.  Click on the link below to learn more about BabyPlus Prenatal Education System.

Having another baby can be an adjustment as well as a learning experience for the entire family.  Jealousy can set in when so much attention is on the new baby, especially if you have an only child.  By starting early on, some of that might be alleviated with just a little extra attention.  The perfect chance to do this is while doing your BabyPlus prenatal lessons.  Just muffle the sound with a pillow and take the time to read to the brother or sister-to-be or use it as a time to learn numbers by having them count the “heartbeats.”  It’s also a great time to sit and talk with them about having a new brother or sister.  Help promote sibling bonding even prenatally while in the womb.  It may not eliminate sibling rivalry completely but might help encourage the relationship in the long run.

If this is your first pregnancy, I know that you are concerned about your infant's development.  Prenatal care is so important to not only your baby's infancy but to his health and welfare throughout his life.  One element of prenatal care should be the use of BabyPlus.  One mother of a BabyPlus child wrote recently on BabyCenter.com about her child's early benefits and her baby's development after birth.

It seems to live up to its claims!
As promised, my daughter (25 months) was born with her eyes wide open, relaxed, not crying, and nursed well in spite of being a few weeks early. Early on, many people commented on how alert she is, and now they comment on how friendly, happy, and verbally advanced she seems to be. My mother works with an early childhood education program and gave me developmental charts that professionals use, and my daughter seems to be off the charts cognitively and verbally, and somewhat ahead emotionally as well. We haven't really been pushing hard to teach her things, but she knows at least 10 colors, several shapes, and about half the alphabet and the numbers 1-9 on sight. She can count to 12 solidly, and sometimes tries to get up to about 20, is up to 4 word phrases, and engages in lots of pretend play. She doesn't get upset very easily, and if she is upset, she recovers very quickly. I don't know how much of this is just her nature, but when I read the descriptions on the BabyPlus website, I have to believe it had something to do with it. My only word of caution is that it was louder than I expected which was a little annoying and made be worry a bit about the volume for my daughter, but her hearing is just fine!

Born Learning - Already!

All parents know that learning actually begins before your child goes to school.  Learning really begins in the womb.  Everyone knows that baby development after birth is important.  However, the research now confirms that the critical period in prenatal development - especially early brain development - is impacted week by week in pregnancy.  Using the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System - a simple set of sounds similar to the mother's heartbeat - helps during the stages of prenatal development.

Don't wait to begin teaching your baby after he or she is born - help them to be born already learning!

As the Olympics Games come to a close, not only do we need to applaud the athletes but their families as well.  Sometimes we forget about the “behind the scenes” support system that they provide.  I truly enjoyed watching Michael Phelps in every event, not only because of how amazing he was to watch but how excited his Mom would get.  You could see the pride and joy in her reactions to Michael’s victories.  I really don’t think he could have achieved the status that he has without knowing that no matter if he came in first or last, there was someone at home who would love him unconditionally.  So, if your children are still in the womb or have children of their own, tell them you love them no matter what.  Let them know that they have a gold medal support team that is rooting for them every day and is there to love them with no strings attached.

A baby who sleeps through the night- that would be wonderful!  I remember when I had my 3 children. During all of the stages through pregnancy with my first child I thought about the delivery and how I would handle it. However, for my second and third child, during the pregnancy trimesters, I thought about the sleep deprivation that came after delivery and how I wished that those second and third babies would sleep through the night at an early age.  I, unfortunately, had my babies before BabyPlus was available.  Now, I know how I would be able to ensure that my baby would have a good chance of sleeping through the night at an early age.  Parents who have used BabyPlus report that one of the key benefits is their baby's ability to self soothe.  This means that the baby can calm herself down thus leading to better sleeping patterns, early on. This is especially important if you have other children or are planning to go back to work and can't afford the sleep deprivation that frequently comes with new babies.  So, give yourself and your baby the benefit of a early infant sleeping schedule that you both can enjoy.

BabyPlus Relaxes Prenatal Baby

I got a call from an expectant friend of mine who is experiencing a high-risk pregnancy.  She is 32 weeks pregnant and had been using BabyPlus regularly.  As her pregnancy progressed, she was put on bed rest, and then put on a Trabutaline pump, and had to wear a heart monitor for 2 hours a day.  With all that she was occupied with, she was frustrated and quit using BabyPlus.  For the next two weeks she said the baby had started getting really active, moving constantly, kicking very hard, and it became quite uncomfortable for her.  She thought back to BabyPlus, and figured maybe it might soothe the baby and maybe she could get some rest.  She started back with BabyPlus, and after a few days, she called me to say that BabyPlus had an amazing effect on the baby.  She said she went back to her schedule, using BabyPlus when she would lay down for a nap, and she said the baby fell asleep right away.  She said not only would he fall asleep, but said he was much more calm for the rest of the day, his kicking and movements became more playful and not as aggressive.  She credits BabyPlus.  Link to our website for more information about the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System. http://www.babyplus.com/
