First time moms can be nervous when it comes to their very first prenatal care checkup. The first office visit usually begins with a check of your height, weight, and blood pressure.

You and your doctor may also discuss the following:

  • Review of medical history
  • The due date
  • Contraceptive history
  • Family history of major disease or genetic issues
  • General health
  • Allergy history
  • Use of medications

Tests at your first visit include:

  • Blood work
  • Pap smear
  • Urinalysis
  • Heart, lung, and thyroid assessment by your doctor

As you get further along in you pregnancy, you will be expected to make more and more doctors visits. These monthly check-ups will include:

  • Urine check
  • Weight check
  • Blood pressure
  • Check hands, feet, and face for excessive swelling
  • Measurement of your abdomen to assess stages of fetal development
  • Check the baby's positioning
  • Fetal heart rate check
These 40 weeks will go by fast. Remember to rest and make sure you go to all of your appointments!
