Taking a multivitamin that has folic acid is probably the best way to ensure you’re getting an adequate daily dose. But you can also find folic acid in green, leafy vegetables and grains, among other foods. Here are just some common foods that will boost your folic acid levels the natural way:- Spinach
- Citrus fruits (such as a glass of orange juice)
- Cereals
- Rice
- Beans
In fact, in 1998, further driving home the importance of folic acid in healthy pregnancies, the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration mandated that folic acid be added to enriched grain products. That means you’ll find folic acid in lots of breads and pastas, too.
So be diligent about getting enough folic acid. And if you’re taking a multivitamin to do so, you’re also taking a simple step to get other vitamins and nutrients that are good for your baby. As KidsHealth.org puts it: “Having a healthy baby means making sure you’re healthy, too.”(written by Marcia Ellett)
