Another blog from Dr. Logan, regarding some humorous adventures in the early days:

After developing the invention I was asked to help launch it as a product in several countries, and for a decade found myself inhabiting airplanes (these journeys were all business, no sightseeing--30 to 40 hours awake across the Pacific, immediately plunging into press conferences, professional presentations, and public lectures, then on to another city).  Apart from learning that one Borneo affiliate's jungle home had a pet python--very alive--hanging over his door, swimming out of a taxi on my way to speak before faculty at Madras Medical University in Chennai, India (as the monsoon season struck), or being delayed hours by a freak April snowstorm in Turin while physicians keen to hear about BabyPlus waited with rare Italian patience, Russia provided real challenges.

Leaving Novgorod in a hurry for a Moscow flight, about an hour later two soldiers ran from a guard post carrying machine guns pointed at us; they demanded my passport . . . which I was shocked to discover had been left with the hotel desk clerk.  However, a minute later, another car arrived, its driver waving that needed identification (the hotel owner's brother was one of the guards, and he had phoned ahead, dispatching his chauffeur)--everyone else found this highly amusing.  Worse, upon landing in Germany, I was told its eastern border had been sealed, and mine was the last flight because the plague (yes, that same Middle Ages pandemic) had broken out in western Russia; within days I became dizzy, nauseous, weak, and feverish--symptoms thoughtfully passed to my wife--grounding me for three months.

But special memories are reserved for England.  At its annual spring baby fair in Wembley stadium outside London (where the Beatles played many concerts), I had to compress my usual three-hour slide show to ten minutes before thousands of literally expectant parents--repeated endlessly over a weekend for each new audience.  And after a BBC interview I was rushed to Bristol for a live television discussion (on the heels of their Miss Swimsuit Competition), complete with surprise.  The producers' skepticism about how unborn children often respond to BabyPlus, by moving their arms or legs in concert with its rhythms, suddenly surfaced when a quite pregnant mother--of six siblings--had been recruited from pedestrians outside to experience a sonogram while BabyPlus was placed on her abdomen; I pointed out that normally physical reactions by infants in the womb would result after days if not weeks of exposure to my heartbeat-based curriculum, but debunking was clearly on the agenda.  Astonishing to all of us, the baby's perfectly syncopated and vigorous movements kept the station's phones ringing for hours . . . .

Other stories would wear out this blogger's welcome, therefore I will close by underscoring that not only is BabyPlus an exciting innovation in its own right, what has taken place off the record has been hardly unstimulating.

This is a guest blog from Paula Ryan, a Pediatric Physical Therapist and BabyPlus mother of three.......

"As a pediatric physical therapist, the developmental strengths of the BabyPlus children I've seen in my practice are very convincing.  These children consistently demonstrate very strong fine and gross motor skills, early milestones, and long attention spans.

Now, I am a BabyPlus mother of three and have seen countless additional benefits in my own children.  What a wonderful investment!"

We know Paula took the time to research about prenatal development before she became pregnant.  Her work with children who had benefitted from the use of our prenatal care curriculum caused her to want to provide these same benefits for her first pregnancy.  She saw the tangible benefits, and went on to use her BabyPlus two more times!

Thanks to Paula for sharing her thoughts!

 Dear Customer Service,

What is BabyPlus?????

BabyPlus is a series of 16 scientifically designed rhythmic sounds that resemble a mother's heartbeat. The rhythm of the sounds increases incrementally and sequentially as the pregnancy progresses. The BabyPlus sound pattern introduces your child to a sequential learning process, built upon the natural rhythms of their own environment.

This "auditory exercise" strengthens cognitive development during the time period when the advantages will be most significant for a child. BabyPlus is the first educational tool designed for prenatal use that has been scientifically proven effective. BabyPlus children have intellectual, developmental, creative, and emotional advantages from the time they are born.

Your baby can very clearly hear these rhythmic sounds. She or he learns to discriminate between the sound coming from the mother and those from BabyPlus. In other words, the learning process has begun. Your baby will be able to accelerate the rate at which she or he compares and contrasts sounds. This process builds your baby's memory for greater capacity and function throughout life.

The BabyPlus curriculum is contained on a microchip unit that is worn twice a day by the mother while going about her normal routine.  It is a little bigger than the size of a bar of soap.  You attach it to a belt pouch (provided) and wear it.  The sounds come out of the speakers that are built into the unit.  You may begin using the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System anytime between weeks 18 and 32 of pregnancy, although we have had mother’s begin using the curriculum later in their pregnancy and still have tangible results. The system is pre-set for the optimum volume and duration of play. The curriculum is not available on cassette or CD. To learn more about the scientific studies behind BabyPlus, read some testimonials from mothers who have used our system, and purchase the BabyPlus Prenatal Education System, visit click on the BabyPlus logo.

What a great fit for BabyPlus to take part in Alison Sweeney’s baby shower.  The event, hosted by Hot Mom’s Club and sponsored by BabyPlus was held November 2 at the Tree House Social Club in Los Angeles.  The atmosphere was wonderful, full of young moms and their kids.  It was incredible to see Alison interact with her young son and through BabyPlus she can already start bonding with her daughter.  BabyPlus gives moms a chance to spend “special” time each day with their child while still in the womb.  The amazing part is the baby starts to respond to the BabyPlus lessons, becoming active during the time when BabyPlus is played.  If a mom is consistent, using BabyPlus at around the same time every day, babies tend to become active during the time when they’re used to hearing the lessons.  I’m sure Alison is enjoying the time she is able to spend with both her children and no doubt, she will continue to see results from BabyPlus after her daughter is born.

As BabyPlus approaches 20 years since its commercialization, readers might be interested in a bit of history.

After conceiving the general concept in August 1982, I spent three years developing the basic theory, which was presented at a Los Angeles nursing conference in March 1986, then to an international congress in Austria the following September.

Over many months I worked closely with technicians to structure curricularized sounds derived from the maternal bloodpulse as recorded in the womb, and by August 1987 first BabyPlus birth took place.  Within a year there were enough infants to constitute a pilot study, and those results--along with the principles behind the idea--were published in a peer-reviewed journal.  An independent clinical trial by a physician team compared this approach with music and a control group, tracking children over nine years, to confirm the original advantages; that assessment also appeared in a professional publication.

Today, with over 100,000 youth worldwide having received the BabyPlus benefits, those of us affiliated with this product are enormously gratified that we have been able to assist a generation representing great promise.

BabyPlus had the honor of co-sponsoring the baby shower of Alison Sweeney this past week.  Some of you might know her from Day's of Our Lives and Biggest Loser.  The event took place at the Tree House Social Club in Los Angeles.

BabyPlus is all over the media these days with their prenatal fetal development system.  Their BabyPlus curriculum is "a series of 16 naturally derived sounds that resemble a mother's heartbeat." These auditory exercises strengthen a babies learning ability during the most critical develpment period of a pregnancy. BabyPlus is used by more and more moms everyday, including Alison Sweeney.  In their latest survey they found that 96% of babies are alert at brith, 83% were calm at birth, and 72% were able to nurse.  Additionally, 97% of BabyPlus parents would recommend it to a friend.

These results are opening eyes all around the world.  The employees are blogging for their company and sharing the results as well.  They are seeing quite a bit of PR including a spot on Access Hollywood this Friday evening (November 14, 2008) as well as mention in Life&Style Magazine.  Watch this blog for more exciting news and announcements from BabyPlus.
