Peanut allergies - a thing of the past?

Monday, March 16, 2009 by Cindy Wallander

Good news for any parent who has a child with a peanut allergy.  The break through is that scientists "retrained" the ability of some children to tolerate peanuts by feeding them tiny amounts of the very food that endangered them.

Don't try this on your own. Doctors monitored youngsters closely in case they needed rescue, and there's no way to dice a peanut as small as the treatment doses required.

As parents, we are always intrigued by scientific breakthroughs that involve our precious children.  We are always looking for the science behind anything that is suggested for us to do.  For some reason, just knowing that there is science behind something helps parents realize that this is not something new.  BabyPlus - or some type of infant stimulation - has actually been around for thousands of years!  Parents have to realize that anything done during these important prenatal months, good or bad, will have an impact on their baby.
